When designing the HGTV® Smart Home 2022, interior designer Tiffany Brooks took inspiration from the home’s coastal city, Wilmington, North Carolina — known for its outdoor scene and relaxed lifestyle. The imagination lounge brings nature inside using color, texture, and natural light from VELUX® Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylights with shades to create the perfect space for both children and adults to unplug and let their imagination run free.
1. Tree house theme
The modern tree house is not just for kids. In a technology-fueled world, adults are seeking new ways to unplug and connect with nature inside their homes and away — such as a vacation retreat spent in a tree house ecolodge.
With the imagination lounge, you don’t have to leave your home to escape. Brooks cleverly brings the elements of a tree house inside this designated tech-free zone, using leaf pattern curtains, blonde wood tables and a custom tree limb installation.

These skylights are controlled through the VELUX App Control System, which allows homeowners to automate their skylights and shades. Through the tap of a button on your smartphone, the skylights can open to create airflow and freshen the room. Or adjust the light-filtering shades to diffuse light when needed to keep the light level and temperature in the room comfortable.
3. Modular seating
The imagination lounge achieves its relaxed essence in part through comfortable seating. The cushion seats offer optimal lounging conditions, whether you’re drawing at the table or reclining to gaze at the sky and let your mind wander.
4. On-trend green color scheme
Green is one of the most popular interior design colors of 2022. According to color psychology, green is restful to the eye and has an overall calming effect that’s indicative of nature. Likewise, in interior design, green often promotes tranquility and wellness. Brooks pulls on both these concepts to evoke this shade of green’s serene qualities, which are enhanced by the natural light from skylights.
