Design ideas for creating luxurious bedroom escapes

Think immersive color schemes, lush layered fabrics and plenty of natural light.

As we spend more time in our homes, finding moments of solitude is more important than ever before. No longer just a room for sleeping, bedrooms offer an opportunity to design simple luxuries into your life.

In the HGTV® Smart Home 2021, interior designer Tiffany Brooks uses color, material and natural light to bring a luxury vibe to the main and guest bedrooms. See how she did it with these four design ideas.

Lush drapery

Nothing says luxury better than drapery, and Brooks uses it in two ways in the HGTV® Smart Home bedrooms. The main bedroom features a draped bed that literally envelops the sleeper in soft fabric folds.

The guest bedroom features full length window draperies in a soft grey fabric that contrasts with the mustard yellow walls. The draperies soften the window frames and their lines connect with the striped area rug to help the room feel larger.

Rich colors

Brooks uses saturated colors in both bedrooms as a means of escape. The steel blue in the main bedroom taps into the well-known soothing qualities of the color blue, while also connecting to the home’s ocean-side location in Naples, Florida. The muted yellow in the guest bedroom conveys a sense of joy.

Sky views

Skylights with blinds in both bedrooms add height and a sky view for the ultimate calming experience. Whether it’s puffy clouds or shooting stars, lying in bed with a view of the heavens provides a needed respite from everyday concerns.

In addition to natural light and a view, the skylights open to refresh the space with outside air, and room darkening blinds block the light to ensure a good night sleep.

Soft layers

In addition to drapery, Brooks layers in plenty of pillows, throws and soft comforters onto the beds, a simple indulgence that’s both eye-pleasing and functional.
