Light and airy loft

See how the loft in the HGTV® Smart Home 2015 is versatile enough to be a light-filled hangout and a darkened movie room.

The loft in the HGTV® Smart Home 2015 is the center of activity whether you’re entertaining friends or hunkering down for binge-watching your favorite television shows.

And three VELUX No Leak Solar Powered “Fresh Air” Skylights bring versatility to the party.

Open them wide and fill the space with fresh air and daylight. It’s like a lawn party, but without the bugs. Shut them tight and lower the blinds for a darkened theater-like space.

“The loft was the perfect place to add skylights because it is also the media room of the house,” said Jack Thomasson, House Planner for the HGTV Smart Home 2015. “The easily controlled black-out shades make the room the perfect place to watch your favorite movie.”

The loft’s décor, a palette of blues ranging from navy, cobalt, royal and sapphire, shows true under light from above that only skylights can deliver. Sunlight pours into the room, into its far corners, revealing the modern farmhouse design. And as in the master bedroom , using skylights in the loft frees up wall space to hang framed art.

“Natural light is the most economical way to light any home, plus it is a beautiful way to light your home,” Thomasson said. “Natural light gives you a connection to the outside that brings other therapeutic benefits as well.”

People are sure to be drawn to the loft’s light and airy vibe, whether it’s to relax with friends or watch their favorite movie.
