The DeWitt kitchen addition modernized a space that had not been updated since the house was built in the 1940s. The existing kitchen was 100 square feet, which made preparing a simple meal challenging at best, and did not suit the lifestyle of the family, who enjoy gathering with relatives and friends for meals and entertaining.
The contractor, Hehl Construction Services, nearly tripled the size of the original kitchen. Adding an abundance of cabinets provided plenty of storage space, but left no room for windows. The contractor installed two VELUX manual “Fresh Air” skylights in the south-facing cathedral ceiling to provide natural light throughout the day. The homeowners can open the skylights to bring fresh air inside and release odors that have a tendency to build up in the kitchen.
